I need Help with semi- transperancy...

Message par Nuna »

Hi folks!

First of all: Don't expect too much english- I haven't spoken for 'bout 5 years; french is even more worse, but I hope you'll understand me...

Well my prob:
I am creating a point and click adventure and some graphics have to be semi transperent.
Is that possible and how do I realize it?
If you didn't understand what I was talking 'bout- an example:
In this adventure I am creating there is a magician how "uses" his crystal bowl. This bowl is supposed to be semi- transparent (Is it the correct word? NO? Description: You can see through it what's behind)
The "normal" background of the crystal bowl's picture has to be completly transparent...
Same question again:
Is that possible and how do I realize it?

I hope you can help me soon - if you understood what I was trying to say...

Thx a lot,
Nuna

With the freeware version it's more complicated. It's necessary to create several image and proceed by copy/paste (modify the opacity of the paste)

With the Studio version, juste use layers

Hi Nuna,

With the Studio release, it's very easy to use transparency on each layer of you picture.
In this release, the picture is the result of some layers piled up, each upon others.
The transparency itensity can be adjusted on each layer.
PhotoFiltre Studio is a shareware release 30 days and can be bought for a rather light price : 25 €.

For the freeware release, you have to begin with the baground details and next : paste the crystal bowl.
When you just do paste, the operation is not validated and the objet is selected. Make a right clic on the object selected, activate transparency, chose transparency color and adjust the value of intensity (or tolerance, i don't know the language release you are using)
You can try settings any times you wish, and validate by Enter or right clic / paste validate.

Have fun with PF, and look at PF Studio, it's realy a magic tool : http://www.photofiltre-studio.com/

didn't work

Message par Nuna »

Hi!
Thanks for answering but it didn't helped at all...
whenever I want to copy the bowl into a transparant image (which is thought to be the background) nothing happens...
Once it seemed to be the solution, but the only result was a whole blank image...
Also it isn't possible to paint something into a picture which was closed on time- whenever I open it again and want to change it in any way nothing happens...

Why???

So i had understood that the crystal bowl would be transparent, and not the background of the whole picture.

Any way, with a picture which contents transparency, you can't work. You need use RVB mode and deactivate Transparency color in Image menu.

Afterwards, you can paste the crystal bowl and adjust his tranparency as described before.
At last, before saving, you can define a transparent color for the background by several ways in Image menu.

Hi!

Hum, it's difficult to explain in english...
I'm not even sure, weather I understood what YOU told me....
by the way: is there a german forum?

Of course, the bowl is supposed to be transparent, but the background of the picture which contains the bowl hast to be so too....
If I were you, I wouldn't understand that...

New try:
To create this game I have rooms, characters, objects, ...
Evereything has at least one picture which means you don't draw P.g. the bowl into the room, but you put the object"bowl" at it's place...

I've got a problem with the word "paste"...
My dictionary says it means nearly the same as "copy a detail of one file into another"
but that didn't work...
And what am I supposed to do with RVB? By clicking it turns the symbol grey but doesn't change anything in the picture...

you see- will be hard work to make me understand
- thanks for trying! :D

Hi Nuna,

Copy and Paste are the two first items to know with a computer !!!
Paste = einfügen in german.

If you are working with a picture which contents transparency, two steps are needed :
- turn the menu : Image / Mode / in RVB colors
- Deactivate transparency in menu : Image / Transparency color

Without these two steps, you can't do rather anything.
After that, the tools of right panel will become in black line (and not grey).

Transparency of the bowl will be set just before validate your paste.
Transparency of the background will be set at least, before saving your picture as gif or png file.

I think we can success to resolve this point.
But in the international section of the forum you can also post in german.
Cheers

Merci!
It works now!

Nuna

P.S.: Of course I do know "paste" means "einfügen" in german- I was just thinking faster than I can type... and didn't read over it once again...

Thanks!
But it was reallx hard work! Especially if you are lookinf for RVB which doesn't exist (says the help function) in version 9...
But I installed an older version... Now it works!
Thanks again, has to be very difficult with noobies like me... But you're doing a great job! 8)
