How can I retain transparency of a .png ?

I already learned how to resize. But when I save, my .png avatar loses its transparency !! How may I avoid this ?

In the 6 versions, the transparency of saved images is managed as 0 or 1 and the image only into 256 colors.
So if you make a progressive transparency using a mask for example, you can paste it like it is,
but it can't be saved with the Alpha channel wich usually keeps transarency for png files.

This will be changed in the next release at the beginning of 2012.

Or yet you can use the Studio release for free, during 30 days, and save png with Alpha channel as 256 level of transparency,
and as usual with 16 millions of color.

I am extremely new to image editing, so pardon me..

I have a .png that needs to be resized. So that is no problem. That's ALL I must do.

But..I am doing something wrong..or there is no feature yet to retain its transparency..
