convert selection to path (vectorial path)

Hi all,
I just want to make a vector-shape; the steps I did:
1. new image - font Wingding- E
2. I made a selection of it and saved the selection
3. New image - opened the selection
4. Vectorial path - convert selection to path is not active.

Question: how can I make a vectorial path of the font, in what way?

Only vectorial selection can be converted to vectorial path, not bitmap selection like font conversion, magic wand or selection union
