DPI Question

Message par b1rd »

Is there a way to check the DPI of an image though PF, or even change the DPI?

Thanks,

Fortunately yes, :)

Right clic / Image size : select the unit value of size as inches and set the dpi value you need.
But this is only usefull for printing. The real weight of an image is its size in pixels.
Increase the size in pixels of an old image doesn't increase its quality, it's only available
for a new image or a new scan.

For an older question of yours, did you seen this page : http://www.photofiltre-studio.com/present-en.htm ?

Hi Tom, thanks for the reply-

I did try this before I posted, but I did not see any reference to "DPI." I see the option to change the resolution. Is this what you are referring to?

I was asked to create a 4 x 6 image to use as mailers. I was told they needed to be 300 DPI, which I assume was for printing, as you mentioned. When I increased the resolution to 300, the image greatly increases in size as well.

I'll have a look at the link in a bit, as far as my older question, thanks.

Yes indeed,
The resolution is generaly given in Dot per Inch = DPI = Pixel per Inch
Yes the image reach 1200 x 1800 pixels. But i haven't the sense of "image to use as mailers" understood. ?

I was contacted by a person who wanted me to design a "mailer" which is just an advertisement postcard, that he will use to advertise his business, via the postal service.

So, I would design a 4" x 6" design, that needs to be 300 DPI. I'll email it to him, and he in turn would email that to the company that has these printed, and mails them out.

This is a friend of mine who is trying to bypass using the other company's graphic designer by having me do it. I was told the design has to fall with both the 4 x 6 and 300 DPI parameters.
